Examination by an allergist specialist

Allergology, although one of the youngest medical disciplines, is a branch of medicine that is gaining importance day by day. It deals with testing the hypersensitivity of the immune system and treating all kinds of allergic reactions.

The triggers of allergies, the so-called allergens, can be the most diverse and seemingly harmless substances from our environment that, when they come into contact with the body, cause its violent and inadequate reaction. Given that the number of these allergens is huge, it is clear that a person can be allergic to practically anything.

In our polyclinic in Kragujevac, we are dedicated to the rapid detection of these hidden "triggers" and the effective resolution of allergic problems, so that our patients can breathe fully and function without everyday problems.

Epidemic of the modern age: The fact that the number of allergens is constantly increasing clearly tells us that today's modern age, the drastically changed way of eating and increased environmental pollution, cannot even be imagined without allergies and allergology.

Allergies can occur at any age, and timely detection of the exact cause is the only true path to long-term peace and getting symptoms under control.

What does the examination include and the most common symptoms

Apart from a detailed discussion and clinical examination by a doctor subspecialist in allergology, the key to success lies in accurate diagnosis, which can be completely performed in our outpatient clinic.

Symptoms that require examination:

  • Frequent sneezing, stuffy nose and watery discharge (allergic rhinitis)
  • Persistent itching, tearing and redness of the eyes
  • Shortness of breath, whistling in the chest and persistent cough (asthma suspected)
  • Skin changes: rash, hives (urticaria), redness, swelling and eczema
  • Stomach discomfort after eating a certain type of food

Services and diagnostics in the polyclinic:

  • Allergological skin tests (prick test): Quick and painless skin testing for a wide range of inhalant (pollen, dust mites, dander) and nutritional (food) allergens.
  • Spirometric test: A precise test for measuring lung capacity and function, crucial for detecting and monitoring asthma.
  • Laboratory analyses: Complete blood tests, including testing for specific antibodies, for the deepest and most reliable confirmation of allergies.

Access to treatment and therapy

When the allergen causing your problems is precisely isolated with the help of skin tests or laboratory analyses, the allergist creates a strictly individual treatment plan.

In addition to advice on avoiding contact with the allergen, treatment usually includes modern drug therapy (antihistamines, drops, inhalers) that quickly relieves symptoms. In specific cases, immunotherapy (hyposensitization) can be recommended to patients, the goal of which is for the body to "get used" to the allergen in the long term and stop reacting violently to it.
