Examination by an orthopedic specialist

Orthopedics is a branch of medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases, deformities and injuries of the bone-joint system (motion system).

This complex system is not only made up of bones, but also joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and cartilage. Preserving its function is vital for mobility, independence and pain-free living.

Whether it is acute sports injuries, degenerative changes that come with age or chronic pain due to overuse, an orthopedic examination is the first and most important step towards restoring normal limb and spine function.

Important note: Chronic joint or back pain should never be ignored or attributed solely to age or fatigue.

Early diagnosis of degenerative diseases, such as arthrosis, enables the application of therapy that significantly slows the deterioration of cartilage and postpones the need for difficult surgical interventions and the installation of artificial joints.

When to visit an orthopedist and what diseases does the examination refer to?

A clinical examination by an orthopedist includes taking a detailed history, analyzing gait and posture, examining joint movements, as well as checking the stability of ligaments and muscle strength.

What symptoms require examination?

  • Joint pain at rest or when moving
  • Swelling, redness, warmth around the joint or reduced mobility
  • Long-term pain, especially in the shoulder joint
  • Pain in the neck and back, with or without spreading down the arms and legs
  • A feeling of instability or "popping" of the joint
  • Consequences of falls, blows and sprains

The most common diseases and injuries

  • Degenerative diseases: arthrosis of the knees, hips and small joints of the hands.
  • Sports injuries: tearing (rupture) of the meniscus and cruciate ligaments, stretching of muscles and tendons.
  • Inflammatory conditions: tennis elbow, golfer's elbow and tendinitis.
  • Fractures and traumas: repair of bone fractures and joint dislocations.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome.

Modern approach to diagnosis and treatment

After the basic clinical examination, ultrasound diagnostics (UZ) of the bone and joint system is often applied in our polyclinic. This completely safe and comfortable examination allows the surgeon to immediately and precisely notice damage to soft tissues (ligaments, tendons and muscles) or the presence of fluid in the joint.

Our goal is to always, when medically justified, prefer non-operative treatment. This includes counseling on physical therapy, prescription of drug therapy, as well as the application of intra-articular injections (blockade and hyaluronic acid) directly into the painful joint under ultrasound control, which guarantees maximum precision and quick relief of complaints.

For conditions that require surgical treatment, state-of-the-art, minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures are available to patients.
